About the Dutch Safety Board Explorations by the Board

The Dutch Safety Board has conducted explorations in recent years: Trustworthy Research in the Public Interest (2024), Verkenning maatschappelijke effectiviteit (2019) (exploration of societal effectiveness) and Onafhankelijk onderzoek in het publiek belang (2018) (Independent investigations in the public interest). The latter two publications are only available in Dutch.

What makes organizations that conduct research in the public interest worthy of trust? What do citizens, politicians and administrators expect from effective and relevant research/investigative bodies? Which qualities contributes to trust and what does that entail?

The Board studied extensively recent investigations of its own and others. It read relevant literature and case studies. And interviewed more than seventy persons. All representants from:
