Crashed en route, Britten Norman BN-2A-26, South of Klein Bonaire, 22 October 2009

Status : Closed

The aircraft departed Curaçao on a VFR scheduled flight to Bonaire. On board were one pilot and nine passengers. At approximately ten minutes after departure the right engine stopped according to statements made by the passengers. The pilot continued the flight to Bonaire on the remaining engine. According tot statements made by the passengers on board, the aircraft started to lose altitude. The aircraft impacted the water at a position 900 meters south of the island Klein Bonaire. The pilot was killed. The passengers survived the accident and were rescued by a boat that was near the position of the ditching. One passenger suffered minor injuries. On request of the Directorate Aviation of the ministry of Transport and Traffic of Curaçao, the Netherlands Antilles, the Dutch Safety Board investigates the accident.
