The Dutch Safety Board is urging airlines to focus on learning from erroneous takeoffs. Besides legal requirement, there are various ways to learn more and improve safety. This is the conclusion of the Board in their recent report Takeoff with erroneous takeoff data, Embraer 195-E2.

The investigation was initiated after a commercial aircraft took off shortly before the end of the runway at Berlin Brandenburg Airport on 12 September 2021. The late takeoff was due to an incorrect thrust setting based on erroneous takeoff data, resulting in compromised safety margins.

Occurrences of takeoffs based on erroneous data are not uncommon. The Dutch Safety Board emphasizes the critical need for airlines to learn as much as possible from such incidents, given the potentially catastrophic consequences.
