  • Interim statement 'Runway excursion Dornier 228-212'

The crew  was practicing circuits and landings at EHEH which included touch-and-go and stop-and-go procedures. During an intended stop-and-go the aircraft veered off the runway whilst making a ground loop. The flight crew had no injuries, but the aircraft was heavily damaged, in particular the left main landing gear and the left wing tip. Both main wheel tires had deflated.

The shortened investigation explored the following aspects: technical state of the aircraft and in particular the systems that relate to the directional control of the aircraft (including the engines), aircraft system behavior, a reconstruction of the flight path and crew actions and possible effect of weather. Generally, the process of collecting factual information has been completed and the gathered information is being analysed.
