BOPEC – Bonaire: Fire safety compromised by inadequate maintenance
The fire safety at the Bonaire Petroleum Corporation at Bonaire was compromised at 8 September 2010. This is concluded by the Dutch Safety Board in a report published today. The company’s firefighting system was not working due to inadequate maintenance. The government of Bonaire has neglected to impose any demands on BOPEC and supervise the activities of the company as well as the company’s fire brigade. As a result, on 8 September 2010 a fire broke out in a storage tank containing highly flammable naphtha and could not be extinguished. The tank burnt out completely.
