This interim statement provides an update on the ongoing investigation by the Dutch Safety Board into an accident involving a DJI Inspire 2 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the city of The Hague on the 11th of April 2020.

The operator was performing a crowd observation flight over the Zuiderpark in The Hague. Shortly after take-off and while performing the flight control checks the aircraft no longer responded as expected to the pilot’s input, which ultimately led to a fly-away. The pilot was not able to regain control over the UAV and eventually the connection with it was lost.

The shortened investigation covers the following aspects: (unmanned) aircraft system behavior, a reconstruction of the flight path, handbook procedures and legal aspects related to admission and aircraft accident investigation in general.

Generally, the process of collecting factual information and analysis has been completed. The Safety Board is currently in the process of preparing a draft report. This draft report will be presented to the parties concerned for review in the coming months.
