Interim statement ‘Accident on Cruise Ship near the Bahamas’

This is an interim statement on the status of the Safety Board’s investigation into a fatal accident aboard a passenger ship on 22 March 2024. The investigation is in its final stage; the Safety Board is working to finalise the report. The final report of the investigation is expected to be published in late Q2/early Q3 of 2025.
The incident in brief
On the morning of 22 March, an expansion joint in a steam pipe on board the passenger ship ruptured. This caused the forward sewage treatment room to fill with steam. This space contained two crew members who died as a result of the steam.
