Serious pollution after collision

Status : Open

On 14 June 2024, a Dutch dredger was sailing from its anchorage to a shipyard in Singapore port. The vessel suffered a blackout and became not under command, causing it to sail with its bulbous bow into the side of a Singaporean-flagged bunker ship. The bunker ship was moored alongside a Taiwanese container ship. As a result of the collision, the bunker ship's starboard hull was breached, releasing about 400 tonnes of fuel oil that leaked into the sea and contaminated several beaches.

The Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB) in Singapore launched an investigation following the incident. The Safety Investigation Board is acting as significant interested state.
