Runway incursion with grass mower, Diamond DA-40D, OO-CDC, 26 June 2017
The Dutch Safety Board has conducted a limited investigation into the runway incursion that took place on runway 21 of Maastricht Aachen Airport on 26 June 2017. An airport vehicle, which did not have clearance to cross the runway, started driving in the direction of the runway with the intention to cross it. The air traffic controller had given clearance for take-off to the Diamond DA40 just moments before. The air traffic controller immediately instructed the pilot of the aircraft to abort the take-off, with which the pilot complied.
The Safety Board has decided not to publish about this incident. Maastricht Aachen Airport and Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (Luchtverkeersleiding Nederland, LVNL) conducted a joint investigation and have taken measures to prevent similar incidents. In addition, the incident occurred some time ago, which means that the expected learning effect of publication is limited.
