Mid-air collision between two hot airballoons, Kubicek BB60Z, PH-BTN andCameron A-300, PH-AAD
Status :
Closed
During take-off the balloonist noticed that the wind direction changed. This caused the hot air balloon to fly towards another ascending hot air balloon. The pilots could not prevent the top of the envelope of one balloon and the basket of the other balloon from touching each other. The collision caused no damage to either balloon and none of the occupants suffered any injuries.
This occurrence demonstrates that hot air balloons departing from the same or nearby locations may not initially follow the same course. Therefore, it is advisable to coordinate and establish agreements in advance regarding the order of departure to prevent collisions between balloons.
