Hard landing, Diamond Aircraft Industries GmbH HK 36 TTC, PH-1580, Volkel Air Base
The HK 36 TTC touring motor glider took off for a check flight. The plan was to fly a number of circuits. After the first touch-and-go, the instructor retarded the throttle for an engine failure exercise. The pilot immediately lowered the nose of the aircraft below the horizon. During the exercise, the instructor felt the aircraft sink. The instructor could not prevent the aircraft hitting the runway hard on all three wheels. The aircraft then bounced, hit the runway again and slid partially into the grass on the right side of the runway and came to a stop. The aircraft suffered damage to the nose landing gear, propeller and propeller gearbox among other things. Both occupants were unharmed.
