Collision on the Western Scheldt, between a container ship and an inland tanker

In the afternoon of May 30, 2025, a collision occurred on the Western Scheldt between a seagoing container ship and an inland tanker. The seagoing vessel hit the aft end of the inland tanker. Two crew members fell into the water. Other vessels close by provided aid and stabilizing the inland tanker. The crew members were transported to the hospital for a check-up and were later discharged.
The seagoing vessel proceeded to Flushing for emergency repairs. The cargo of the inland tanker is transferred to another ship. The vessel will first have to undergo extensive repairs at the yard before it can return to service.
