Collision between tugboat and tanker
During the night of Saturday, February 22 to Sunday, February 23, 2025, a tanker collided with a tugboat in dense fog. This occurred on the Nieuwe Waterweg in Rotterdam. The tugboat was waiting there for another incoming vessel.
The collision with the tanker caused a hole in the hull of the tugboat, which led to water entering the accommodation area. To prevent the tugboat from sinking, the crew activated the emergency fire pumps and navigated the vessel onto a shallow area as a precaution. Other ships came to assist and pushed the tugboat onto the shallows. Exhaust fumes from the emergency fire pumps spread into the accommodation area, causing six people to feel unwell. As a precaution, four individuals were taken to the hospital for observation; they were allowed to return home after a check-up.
