The pilot of the G102 saw the Discus entering a thermal and decided to join into it. Upon reaching the thermal, the G102 ended up behind the Discus. The pilot stated that he did not think that it was an ideal place to join in and he had decided to fly on, then turn 180 degrees and make another attempt. When the G102 initiated the turn, the pilot had lost sight of the Discus. Shortly after, the G102 and the Discus were headed straight towards one another. The pilot of the G102 then tried to increase the distance by steering downwards and further in so as to make the turn shorter. Both aircraft continued their flight.
